Interesting

I was gonna post today about how I regreted not being able to make it to sunset because I had to do my FIU MUN position paper, but now I see that everyone was loaded with work and nothing happened. This sunday is a probability, but nothing certain.

The whole looking back thing and wishing we weren't like that but we probably were thing is interesting, and I agree that that's how we'll feel. Doing homework from 8 am is not a bad thing, because if not you have to do it later. It doesn't matter when you get it done as long as you do. Mr. Zawodny actually made us memorize very similar things for our quizzes, so I feel your pain (sort of) guys.

Lastly, tomorrow is sadly the last day of Winter-een-mas. I have to say that for my first Winter-een-mas it wasn't that great. I didn't get to do a lot of the things I wanted to do, cheifly spend the whole weekend playing videogames. : (

It sux when you screw up like that. I remember getting racked ands thats not a good feeling although its different because im in a team so i feel for the team and your competitions happen less frequently so you have less times to shine. But it happens. Uhm the games you ppl decide within your selves. OO remember the anniversary is on the 10th so maybe after both games on that saturday of the 18th we can do something but i leave the up to you.

umm ok sumone explain about the games and which ones we are going to. i jsut got in from orlando and i hav 2 hours of hw to do. yay for procrastination! i had a competition which i pretty much bombed, but i qualified for state so thats ok. lets see, bars..i got 5th palce (the only thing i palced in) w/ a fall (8.85) beam, i pretty much shat all over myself as soon as i got up there and fell 4 times (the last time i fell was pretty funny though, i thought the beam was longer so i jsut kinda saw my feet hit empty space and i jsut stood there dumbfounded for a couple of seconds) i got like last place and scored a 6. floor, fell yet again but according to my coach i danced better than ive ever had b4. i got an 8.1. vault, kinda tripped on my 1st vault so i went over retardedly, 2nd one was better i scored a 9.175. my dad's theory for me falling so much is possibly b/c my ass is incredibly heavy. isnt he nice?

Emily, You're trip sounds amazing, even though you didn't get to see the cheetah. I don't think I've seen that many large (read: non-insectoid) animals in my life, let alone such exotic ones and especially wild.

Lastly, I hope everyone had a good holiday break and all that. I know I did.

I like it. Anyway, I am back in Johannesburg from spending nearly a week in the KwaZulu-Natal. We went to Ithala and uMfolozi-Hluhluwe (pronounced "Oom-fo-LO-zee-Shoo-SHLOO-EE". Don't ask about the case of the missing S's. Cos I have no idea.) Anyway, we did the whole animal thing, which we haven't done sincce I was about eight. It was fun. We didn't do the sick over-luxurious tourist thing... we had to bring our own grub, and sleep on lumpy mattresses, and the electricity went out from 10 pm to 8 am every day. Like, on purpose. Which was hellish for me, because I am a serious night person.
ANYWAY, Donna, this is for you:
We saw 4 of the big 5:
-rhinos (we saw 15 rhinos altogether. 2 black [one was a baby], and 13 white. One of the whites was challenging the other... but he backed off.)
-buffalos (we saw these on a night drive, our only drive with a guide. Anyway, the major Zulu accent made it "baaaah ffffaaaaa looooos". It was so cute! Our guide was rad.)
-Elephant. (our last day, we saw two. It was sooo amazing.)
-Leopard (It was in a tree, and I saw it for about a quarter of a second. But still!!!)
The only one we didn't see was lion.

We also saw:
-giraffes
-hyenas
-IMPALA AFTER IMPALA AFTER FREAKING IMPALA. lol, there were a bunch in out uMfolozi backyard daily.
-Lots and lots of wildebeest. These also liked hanging out behind our uMfolozi hut.
-red Hartebeest
-Nyala--male and female. We saw a male trying to get water from a muddy, nearly dry donga. It was digging with its horns. Highly cool. Of course, our videocamera battery gave out right there. Lol.
-Kudu--male and female. I've eaten kudu several times before. They're really huge. But those horns are just famazing!
-Red duiker
-Blue duiker
-Possibly common duiker. There was one bokkie we never could identify...
-ZEBRA AFTER ZEBRA AFTER FREAKING ZEBRA. Lol. But unlike impala, I never get tired of them. They were right behind and in front of our uMfolozi hut daily. Some asshole kraut tried to approach them. Fucking moron. We saw lots of babies of these... very cute! I saw some suckling, and I watched one big one take a dump about four metres away from our hut. It was green. And very round. And lots of them. Lol.
-Buncha scrub hares.
-Klipspringers.
-Owls.
-Secretary bird. THOSE THINGS ARE ENORMOUS!!!!!! I had no idea.
-Ostriches.
-Guinea fowl <333
-waterbuck
-wild donkeys. I kid you not. Then this idiotic woman came and fed them. And then she went and got MORE food. Unbelievable. She is so totally disrupting EVERYTHING. GAH. Yes, they are donkeys, but they are feral and LIVE IN THE BUSH. Number one rule is never approach or feed the animals. We were going to report her, but the office wasn't open when we left at 6 am. We had a 15-hour drive ahead of us back to JHB.
-Warthogs after warthogs after warthogs. And lots of babies. At Ithala, we were getting ready to leave, and after we had settled our money etc with the office, we were hanging by our car waiting for my dad. Then I turn around, and maybe three metres away were two warthogs. A mother and a male offspring. They were taking absolutely no notice of us, just hanging around and grazing. But my mom made us get into the car. I guess she was right--those tusks can be highly nasty. About six years ago, my brother and cousin Simon got chased by a warthog.
-Bushpig after bushpig after bushpig. And lots of babies. But warthogs are cooler. Lol.
-A bush baby on the steps leading up to out Ithala hut. It was cute.
-Rock dassies after rock dassies after BLOODY ROCK DASSIES AFTER FEKKING ROCK DASSIES. Ithala was totally overrun. When I was very little, on Table Mountain, one stole my sandwich. Popped right onto the table and stole my sandwich. I HIGHLY DISLIKE ROCK DASSIES.
-Vervet monkeys.
-Baboons. Either they, or the vervet monkeys, or the hyenas broke into our garbage can at uMfolozi. It was in a CEMENT box thing attached to the house, with a METAL door. I was impressed.
-African wildcat. Also known as roadkill.
-Chickens. Lol. They were all over.
-bushbok.
-tortoises. In the road.

We came THIS CLOSE to seeing a cheetah, but we were held up by a tortoise crossing the road. There was this large group of cars about 100 metres ahead, and that always means there's something worth watching. Then this tortoise shows up from the middle of nowhere, and begins to cross the road right in front of us. We finally get there, and everyone's drving off. Some afrikaaner told us it was a cheetah, and it was after a kudu. Craptoid.

ANYWAY, it is half past eleven on New Years Day here. Tomorrow is Laurent's birthday, in case anyone wants to send him a happy birthday.
