MM the new year so close by this time. Hmm this week has been good this baseball camp at um its good very good damn ive been typing and stop typing this post for a while i started at 6:45 and now its 9:42 haha im slow so so so again the cliche question how is everybodys break going? POOR VINNY

I also had a bizarre dream that woke me up around 3...or around 8 p.m. for youse. It went like this:
Sarah Diamond, Allison, Gio, Julie, and myself were all in Miami, swimming in this lovely clear rock pool surrounded by mangroves and the whole bit. So we're swiming and having a ducky old time of it when all of a sudden I see a scary guy with a hood and a robe and a rifle pointing at us. I scream, and yell "TERRORIST! DUCK!" (Dunno why I yelled "terrorist") and we all dive underwater. But we can't stay there forever, so eventually I float up and put my hands up. He cocks the gun, as a couple flies dance around the mouth of it, and puls the trigger in slo-mo.
What happens? An itsy bitsy net poofs out of the gun and catches the flies. The dude says "Hi, I'm Gary. I'm a scientist. I study flies". He looks suspiciously like Jill Rappaport's fiance.

Now, for some reason, Sarah, Alvin, and Giode live with us, and my folks decide to go on Sabbatical, leaving Gary in charge. Why, I don't know. So one day, I look out the back door to see a red convertible filled with suitcases, Julie, Gary, and an albino alligator. I yell (but unconcernedly, like I was just pointing out a new hat or something) "Oy Julie, there's an alligator!". She goes "haha." Gary revs the engine, drives in through the back door (though in real life this would be impossible because of the dimensions of the car vs those of the door), drives out the front door (same situation here), and yells "NOW YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN LUNCHES!" I said "You made our lunches?" and woke up.

BACK!

CIVILIZATION! WITH INTERNET! In the past 6 days, I was allowed to go online twice, for 5 minutes each time, becausewe had to pay $$$$$$$$$$ for it at Hunter's Rest. So I couldn't chack the blog. Man, this is AWESOME. SO MUCH LIFE! Allow me to modify my statement. When I said that on holidays we lose touch, I meant things like Memorial Day and stuff...those weekends go KAPUT. But with our first winter break, we're going KABOOM!!!!!!! Speaking of Kaboom, we played putt-putt several times at Hunter's...but I kept KABOOMING the ball, and it would bounce right back to me off the edge of the puttputty thing. It was determined that I am more suited to "big-girl golf". But regular golf sucks. And I suck at puttputt. My score was 75. For 18 holes. Emma got 67. But I got a hole-in-one and she didn't! WHOOT! (Issy, age 10, got two. Hmph)We made up that Emma was the world puttputt champion, and that she was onlydoing poorly to make us feel beter. We were doing it to like this 8-and 6-year old boys. They bought it. It was hysterical.

Aw man. You guys got pressies. I supposedly celebrate Hanukkah, and all I got was a crank-operated cell phone charger for the next hurricane. But I didn't exactly get it. It was supposedly a joke present from my aunt in Ohio to my whole family. OH! But I did get 3 pairs of rocking earrings at the Hunter's Rest curio shop. They cost 90 rand all together. That's about 16 dollars. Extravagence, huh?

AWWWWW!!!! HE PROPOSED!!!!! ON CHRISTMAS!!!!! THAT IS SO SWEET!!!! Ahhh....so romantic. But isn't he like, 19 or something? (Speaking of romance, my cousin Emma, who is smart, sweet, funny, and gorgeous, has had no less than 3 males ask her out over the last 3 weeks! It's hysterical! Here, a guy actually says "I like you".)

So...what else is going on? OOH. I'LL TELL YOU ABOUT NAMES. Here, a lot of Zulu and Sotho and Xhosa people are born and named and brought up in their villages, but then move to the city, i.e. Jo'burg, Cape Town, Durban, etc, when it's time for them to work. Their white bosses don't like complicated names, like 'N'tcoso, so they rename them, using similar sounding English names...or words. I don't know what they'll do for 'N'tcoso, 'cuz she's only 3, but, my cousins' housekeeper, Albertina, probably had a different Xhosa name. Albertina's beau is named Lemon. The gardener is Cement. My father, as a child, had a male cook called Bottom!

Yeah well, Merry Christmas y'all. It's 4:20 a.m. there, so some of you will be up in about 6 hours. I had watermelon for brekker. I derno whot we're gonner do today...but I can assure you we won't be visiting any more boermen!

It's like deja vu all over again

Flies in the shower. A familiar story to all. A heart-warming tale of courage, and good triumphing over evil. I went into Simon's bathroom today to shower before dinner to shower. And what do I see? Not one, not two, but THREE flies all buzzing around. Man, when tey get together and start buzzing around and crashing into walls, they can make quite a racket. So I just got into the shower, and lemme tell you, you should NEVER trust your aunt's old "Moisturising Conditioner with Sea Moss". EVER. But when I got out, they all had left. Guess they didn't like the humidity from the shower. But man.

Things going on

It's 5 am there. Good luck on the next two midterms.
Time change is awful. I fell asleep at 5 am (10pm home) and was awoken at 11 am by my father.
Maria. I read Thinner on the airplane. It was awesome (now my cousin Emma is reading it), but the endingsucks major mold. It was so sad. I was waiting in line at the Madrid airport when I finished it, and I turned to the Scippio-esque dude behind me anbd said "This ending was really awful". He didn't say anything back. I snagged a Busineess-class menu, and they have got it SO GOOD. I'll bring it to school wwhen I get back.
And Rick--you're gonna LOVE this. In Spain, the word baño seems to have disappeared. In the airport and the hotel, there were loads of signes pointing to the--get ready--ASEO!!!!! I was so unbelievably amused!!!!!

At least i was able to pitch thursday and today. Heat really makes my head pound then i have to use my brain for this goddamned science fair. In other news, there is more wildlife in my bathroom. I woke up and discovered a gecko in my shower. Well, I am far more affable to geckos than flies. And I wasn't wet and already in the shower, like I was with the fly. So I caught him and---OOOOOH!!!!---THIS IS AN AWESOME SONG. "Black Angel's Death Song" by the Velvet Underground. Fabulous. So why did I rate it only 3 stars before? I musta been in some kind of a bad mood. Anyway, I caught the gecko and put him outside. And now, I must do science fair.

They are not pleasent creatures. This place we stayed in for about 5 nights in South Africa had them. They DO bite. And they ITCH. Like MAD. We were covered in the bites. So was the baby. He was only 9 months old. I love Alex! He's so cute! He'll be 2 3/4 when we see him next.
